Vics scoop the pool in NSW Breeders Challenge Heats
The Riverina Paceway staged their intial round of heats for the New South Wales Breeders Challenge for two year olds on Friday afternoon and it was the Victorians who cleaned up in both the colts and geldings and fillies divisions.

The colts and geldings event was taken out by Boystrous (Tall Dark Stranger) who led all the way in accounting for his rivals. Taken straight to the lead by driver Alex Ashwood Boystrous was given a relatively easy run in the lead and was then able to run a blistering last two quarters in 26.6 and 26.8 seconds.
Favourite Straathdale had a torrid run early and was caught wide before having to face the breeze. With those final sectionals it was always going to be a hard task and he certainly lost no admirers as he kept plugging away to finish a close fourth.
BOYSTROUS 25 SEP REPLAY
Victorian Gocciadoro who had the run of the race behind the leader was runner up while Teddy Lou snatched third after sitting one out and one back.
Ashwood who also trains the colt was satisfied with his performance.
He was pretty sharp and ran a decent last half. He’s always had good speed and his last run at Wagga before that was good. I was able to drive him quiet.
We went to yearling sales and brought him. Goes back to a really good 2YO Louminee.
He enjoys his work and has his routine. He’ll go straight to semis which is in three weeks time.
After the Challenge he’ll go back to paddock and concentrate on three year old events early on and mid year. He’s well educated has a great brain, and all round he’s a neat little horse.
The fillies division was taken out in impressive fashion by classy filly Comeandsee (Cattle Wash). From her second row draw she was back in the field a conspicuous last before driver Mark Pitt set her alight in the straight where she had some cover before taking the lead over Atomik Go Anna.
COMEANDSEE 25 SEP REPLAY
Pitt kept her mind on the job and Comeandsee found another gear on straightening to clear away with a winning lead and defeat Atomik Go Anna with Sabalenko who was three back on the rails getting third. Frith in Flight who did some work in the run made another charge down the home straight but she raced roughly and contacted a sulky which almost certainly cost her a placing.
The Breeders challenge series kicked off at Menangle last Tuesday with class performers Don Hunter and Birdsong winning their divisions and with the efforts of Boystrous and Comeandsee the series will have a select group of proven youngsters fighting out the major prizes which will culminate in the Finals at Menangle on 31 October.
