More luck is needed URGENTLY
Cream Ridge, NJ – A stroke of luck was had by several Standardbreds when the truck broke down on the way to the Canadian slaughterhouse. Now, with time to keep them from reloading on Monday evening, June 23, 2020, the Standardbred Retirement Foundation, (SRF) is asking for help for them.

Homes offers are most critically needed along with donations to release them from the very overcrowded pen before they reload. Foster homes are also helpful. Additionally, SRF asks if you know past owners and the breeder to please reach out to them. The list of horses can be accessed on the website, see below.

An additional truckload of Standardbreds is scheduled to leave on Saturday, June 27, 2020. One horse has died at the lot, another was "put down" (sadly, not by a veterinarian.) One needs help immediately. He was involved in a traffic accident while working as transportation in a rural area and is in pain. Two have adulterated tattoos, either burned off or cut out.

There is no information on the level of care they may be receiving, but we do know that the lot is jammed packed with horses, that speaks for itself. Last summer some of the horses in need at several pens were very weak and dehydrated, near death, the heat is making the situation worse for them.

Due to the cancellation of social fundraisers, and 343 horses it is feeding right now, SRF is not financially able to take in horses at this time, it is facilitating help for them, screening home offers, foster offers, and managing donations and arrangements to to get them to safety.
