Tom J. Bigler, 65, dies

Pompano Beach, FL…March 17, 2026…Longtime horseman, Tom J. Bigler, 65, passed away on March 16.

The “hulk-like” Bigler, a native of Pittsburgh, PA., with his most recent residence listed in Northfield, Ohio, was known for his gentle touch with “raceway stock,” and began his career in 2000 and last competed in 2022.

His small stable accounted for 116 lifetime wins with his greatest success being on the Northfield—Pompano Park circuit with his early successes being with Hebe Bebe N and Wesgate Dream while his most recent achieved with King Corona, Skyway Venus and Savin Rock, who propelled him to his most successful years as he was winding down his activity.

Longtime owner Alan Hyatt described Bigler as a “gentle giant” with an ability and touch “that brought out the best whenever a horse went behind the starting gate.”

Hyatt lamented, “Tom never had the good fortune of having a 1:48 performer in his midst, but he sure could get a horse with 1:53 talent to go in 1:51!

“He sure put his heart and soul into his horses and his talent and patience as a trainer was his most admirable trait.

“We’ll sure miss him!”

Arrangements have not been completed at this time.
