Trots. Easter. AFL. Big weekend ahead!

Two country cups are to be run and won this weekend at Ararat on Saturday night and Warragul on Sunday.

Tomorrow there is no trots action for Good Friday, but three of our participants in Greg Sugars, Chris Alford and Gavin Lang will be appearing on Channel 7's Good Friday Appeal coverage for the Royal Children's Hospital. Tune in from 2.45pm to see them on TV doing their bit for a great cause.

This weekend also sees AFL footy return for another big season and we have a great special for punters but more on that below.

And don't forget to send your entry in for this weekend's Win a $50 TAB Voucher competition (details below). Pick the Ararat Cup winner and you're in with a chance at grabbing the coin.

Happy and safe Easter from all of us here at HRV!

– FEATURE OF THE WEEK –
RENOWN SILVERWARE ARARAT PACING CUP
2570m standing-start. $25,505.
1: FARMERSNTRADIES
Trainer: Owen Martin
Driver: Michael Sullivan

Form comment: Has been just fair at recent runs and this is not any easier. He's probably past his best and it's hard to see him in the finish here.

2: MACHO COMACHO
Trainer: Dean Braun
Driver: Chris Alford

Form comment: Broke in the Echuca Pacing Cup and didn't have much luck in running after recovering. This will be his third run since the 2013 Wedderburn Cup success. On class he's a must-include runner here from a handy barrier draw.

3: ROAD TO ROCK
Trainer: Keith Cotchin
Driver: Nathan Jack

Form comment: Stawell and Wangaratta Cup runner-up within past five starts. Last time out was third in the Echuca Pacing Cup. His last victory came in the St Arnaud Pacing Cup. He went within 2.3m of Smudge Bromac at Echuca and his form is good enough to see him a major player here. Include.

4: KOTARE ROLAND
Trainer: Roly Wilson
Driver: Neil McCallum

Form comment: Not racing well enough.

5: JUKEBOX MUSIC
Trainer: Julie Douglas
Driver: Glenn Douglas

Form comment: Ran a big race in the Echuca Pacing Cup but didn't fire a shot behind Mister Livan at Melton last start. He's a brilliant sit-sprinter who could bounce back with the right run.

6: WEALLWANTANO
Trainer: Kevin Brough
Driver: Matthew Craven

Form comment: Globe Derby winner last start. This is clearly a step up in grade but you always have to respect the stable in these parts. The barrier doesn't help his cause but if he steps cleanly he might run into a place.

7: ARDLE MCARDLE
Trainer: Amanda Turnbull
Driver: Amanda Turnbull

Form comment: Sydneysider who at his best would be right in the mix however he is racing a touch below that form at the minute. Has a good record from the stand-start and you always have to respect the Turnbull team.

8: TURNPIKE CRUISER
Trainer: Kari Males
Driver: Zac Phillips

Form comment: Aside from his Boort Cup error he's been in terrific form in stand-start races. This is a step up in grade, but with a soft run could run into the exotics.

9: HILLTOP HUSTLER
Trainer: Mick Stanley
Driver: Mick Stanley

Form comment: Big run at Boort last time out when worked hard. Previous win at Horsham was solid and looks a gelding with plenty of upside. Should figure in the finish here.

10: ARBER
Trainer: Tim Bolitho
Driver: Gavin Lang

Form comment: Country Cups specialist who had a dynamic season last year but has struggled a little to replicate that this time around. But Gavin Lang is back aboard and you know at his best he'd be right in the finish. Value hope?

11: NARRA OPERATIVE
Trainer: Peter Manning
Driver: Kerryn Manning

Form comment: Honest customer who can race up on the speed or off it depending on the tempo. Hitting the line well last time out  in the Echuca Cup and should again be taking ground off them late. Kerryn Manning back aboard.

12: SAVESOMTIMETODREAM
Trainer: Paul Rowse
Driver: Jodi Quinlan

Form comment: He's always promised plenty and may be just starting to deliver. Admittedly he had the right run at Melton last time out but was still very good late. The Arden Rooney form is golden!

(Comments: Blake Redden and Cody Winnell)

TAB Trots/AFL Special: Round 1

Punters will be hustling to grab a slice of the $7 on offer for this week’s TAB Trots/AFL Special.

It’s reigning premier Hawthorn to beat the Cats in the AFL into Michael Stanley’s Hilltop Hustler to take out Saturday night’s Ararat Pacing Cup.

Hilltop Hustler has opened $4.6 with TAB Fixed odds – will the money come for him on Saturday? Hawthorn is $1.42 favourite against the Cats on Monday. Combined, at their current prices, the two-leg multi would net punters $6.53 for a $1 dividend.

But the TAB has injected some value into the “Hawthorn Hustler” special – winding the price out to a juicy $7!

Have a crack on track this weekend, at your local TAB outlet, online at tab.com.au or on your TAB app.

Good Friday Appeal

Tune into Channel 7's Good Friday Appeal from 2.45pm to see trots stars Chris Alford, Gavin Lang and Greg Sugars supporting the cause.

Trots fans are encouraged to dig deep to support the worthy cause, which raises vital funds for the Royal Children's Hospital.

HRV would like to take this opportunity to wish all of our industry a happy and safe Easter!
