The Last Trip gives Eureka pointer with crushing win in SA Pacing Cup

Promising four year old The Last Trip (Poster Boy) gave harness racing trainer Emma Stewart yet another big race win with an effortless win in the Kevin and Kay Seymour $100,000 South Australian Pacing Cup at Globe Derby on Saturday night.

The Last Trip who had smashed the track record last week in his heat win bounded straight to the front for driver Taylor Ford. The main danger Forty Love was out three wide early before settling outside the leader. Ultimate Vinnie who won the race two years ago settled behind the leader.

Former South Australian Springfield Affair now prepared by Seaton Grima obtained the perfect one out and one back trail.

But given the easy run in front, it was obvious a long way from home that The Last Trip would be the one to beat.

The Last Trip started to pressure his rivals along the back straight as both Forty Love and Ultimate Vinnie struggled to keep in touch. But The Last Trip powered along with his final two quarters in 27.2 and 27.3 seconds and this was too much for the rest of the field.

The Last Trip had just over 15 metres to spare over Forty Love and Ultimate Vinnie. All eyes will now be on The Last Trip as he races into Eureka contention as second favourite behind Loucasso.

He’s relatively lightly raced with nine wins from thirteen starts and for Emma Stewart has the imposing record of seven wins from just eight appearances.

The $40,000 Aldebaran Park South Australian Trotters Cup was won in fine style by the Victorian Maestro (Love You).

In an action packed event with a number of incidents affecting the chances of a number of runners Maestro was able to enjoy a good trail behind the leader who was the local My Bad Habits.

Maestro’s stablemate John’s Boy was prominent early but had to race outside the leader. The leaders seemed to gain a break in the final lap with the only back marker seeming to make up some ground.

My Bad Habits cleared away on straightening but in doing so let Maestro out and driver Josh Duggan gained the upper hand on the line to defeat My Bad Habits with Regal Attire doing his best work at the finish for third.

The win capped a great evening for Duggan who had earlier scored in the SA Derby on Luvtobeuptome.  Maestro is trained by Brent Lilley who despite being Victoria based is a regular visitor to South Australia where he has enjoyed a lot of success in the past.
