Superior Stride breaks through in Trotters Foundation Final

By Tony Milanese ·

Noted speedster Superior Stride (Elite Stride) finally achieved a classic success when he showed his rivals a clean pair of heels in an impressive win in the $25,000 Three year old Trotters Foundation Final at Menangle on Saturday evening.

Before winning his Heat of the Foundation nearly a month ago Superior Stride had been winless in nine appearances and was placed on several occasions in the Trotters Foundation heats as a two year old.

Showing tearaway early speed Superior Stride had no trouble finding the lead for driver Ashleigh Delosa.

His task was helped by the fact that his main dangers the fillies Gladiatrix and Cee Cee In Paris from their wide draws settled back to the rear.

Outsider Purple Moon took a trail behind the leader while the luckless What The Tooth had to be eased back to last after being wide early.

Gladiatrix started to make a run along the back straight but Superior Stride was increasing the tempo and gradually extending his lead. Superior Stride was all on his own as he strode to an 18 metre win over a gallant Purple Moon who ran the race of her life for a roughie in second with Gladiatrix settling for third.

Superior Stride’s dam Mooshka Stride was an American import and she was no slouch winning five races and going 1.55 in her winning debut.

She also has a full sister yearling filly so that will be interesting if she makes the races.

In the meantime Superior Stride has proved himself amongst New South Wales’s best performed three year olds and credit is due to his trainer Rickie Alchin who has a knack of placing his horses in the right races.

Although he might find the Victorians a bit too classy at this stage if he goes down for the Victoria Derby, his speed will carry him through future races particularly as he gets older and more mature.
