Stable talk – Diamond Racing

By Harnesslink ·

The excitement that is spring racing is nearly upon us.

Some of our best equine athletes are starting to appear at the trials and it’ll only be a matter of time before some of the mouthwatering match ups that spring and summer racing bring, will emerge.

In this Stable talk John Dunn of Diamond Racing runs an eye over some of the stable stars as they prepare to return to the track.

Comment: “He’s had a long spell out and he’s due to trial. I’ll give the Basil Dean a miss and race him in the Ordeal Cup in September. He’s come back great. Being so long off the scene, I didn’t want to throw him in that mobile fresh up,” said John.

It’s Tough (Bettor’s Delight)

Last started: May 2026

Starts/wins/placings this season to date: 7-5-2-0 $130,650

Recent feature wins: Listed New Zealand Country Championship Final

Comment: “Because he raced in the Autumn we gave him a bit longer out, so he’ll miss the first couple of lead up races. His first target will be the Hannon Memorial. He showed ability for the late Katie Cox and has just got mentally and physically stronger the whole way through. His runs in the Summer and into Autumn and the win in the Country Championship showed his toughness, so we’ve got to give him a crack at the Cup.”

Rock Lobster (Majestic Son)

Last started: May 2026

Starts/wins/placings this season to date: 13-6-2-2 $94,320

Recent feature wins: Listed Uncut Gems

Comment: “She’s up the grades now and has surprised us on how much she’s improved from the last time she was in. Last time her manners got a lot better the further the preparation went. Hopefully we can get her back in time for the Jasmyn’s Gift.”

Bruntwood Brigade (Art Major)

Last started: May 2026

Starts/wins/placings this season to date:  12-8-0-0 $88,180

Recent feature wins: Nil

Comment: “The trouble when you win them in a row is that you jump up the grades bloody quick. He didn’t disgrace himself in the Country Championship Final. He comes back in a hard grade (R70) but we’ll just place him right and keep ticking him over.”

One Over Da Line (Majestic Son)

Last started: May 2026

Starts/wins/placings this season to date: 15-5-4-3 $84,061

Recent feature wins: Nil

Comment: “He gets out there and tries every time he goes out onto the track. He comes back in a near enough grade (R69). He should be competitive in that and we’ll see how we go when we get up in the grades.”

Travel Agent (Sweet Lou)

Last started: May 2026

Starts/wins/placings this season to date: 4-2-1-1 $77,225

Recent feature wins: G1 Welcome Stakes

Travel Agent (Bruce Stewart – Photo)

Comment: “He’ll come back and target the Sires’ Stakes heats and the Harness Million Race (October 9th). He is a lot stronger horse. He couldn’t afford to have too long out unfortunately. I’m definitely excited about him.”

Ya Rite Darl (What The Hill)

Last started: May 2026

Starts/wins/placings this season to date: 7-0-0-1 $49,236

Recent feature wins: Nil

Comment: “She had a month out and has just come back from being on the water walker. She’ll target some of those lead up races to the Dominion. Her manners are there now and she has got a bit stronger.”
