Ryan Hryhorec scores again in Strathalbyn Trotters Cup

Trainer Ryan Hryhorec swept to more training success when his trotter Aldebaran Dexta (Aldebaran Eagle) showed plenty of fight in taking out the $20,000 Strathalbyn Harness Club Trotters Cup at Globe Derby park on Saturday night.

Hryhorec elected to drive favourite Rakero Blaze coming off 20 metres and allowed Mark Norman to drive one of his runners Aldebaran Dexta who drew pole position. Aldebaran Dexta took the trail from the standing start and it looked a great sight as the field settled down in the early stages.

Norman made the perfect move along the back straight on the final occasion to get off the rails to avoid the tiring leader. Aldebaran Dexta strode to the front but had a number of challenges including Stockman Pete. However Hryhorec’s other trotter Tweedldee let down with a strong run on straightening but Norman’s urging on Aldebaran Dexta was enough to get him over the line in front of Tweedledee with Kyvalley Heist holding on for third placing.

Rakero Blaze was still last at the bell and was three wide starting to make a run when he was checked thus losing all chance of winning. He finished on for seventh placing without ever looking like to trouble the place getters.

Aldebaran Dexta has raced in South Australia for most of his career and this was the six year old gelding’s 17th win from 43 starts in total. However this was by far his most important success.

Hryhorec stated “We’ve had him since he was a baby. He’s had a few issues with his knees. We raced in Victoria a while back when he won the Heats and Final of the Lang Trot at Melton.”

“He can do a few things wrong and he got it all wrong in the Kapunda Cup.” “We’ll keep him going although there’s nothing special that we’re setting him for.”

The Strathalbyn Trotters Cup provided a generous prize for the winning owner. Committeeman Mario Borg who runs his Bellmoure Park Stud at Sampson Flat near Adelaide offered a free service to one of his sires standing at the stud. Borg currently stands Gotta Go Collect (New Zealand), Cardigan Boko (Sweden) Imperial Count (USA) and more recently the Danish trotter Peak.

The win completed a wonderful run for Hryhorec as he had previously taken out the Pacing Cup with Hezarockinroyalty. In addition as trainer he won three other races with Lochinvar Jewells (Bling it on), Phoebe Onyx (Wishing Stone) and he also drove Beach Hopper (Somebeachsomewhere) in the final event of the program. With 36 horses in work Hryhorec is in a strong position to continue his winning streak into the future.
