Colt makes staggering $230,000 at Karaka
The Australasian Classic Yearling sale has been on fire since the first lot today and just when you thought it couldn't get any hotter, it went for broke when lot 72 stepped into the ring.
The Bettor's Delight full brother to this years smart two year old from the All Stars stable in You Gotta Have Faith who sold at the Australasian Classic Yearling Sale last year for $200,000.
This years colt is well named as How About Me and after a slow start, he took off and never stopped.
Straight through the $100,000 barrier and on he went and before long he had sailed through the $200,000 barrier as well.
Things slowed from there but after what seemed an eternity, How About Me was knocked down to for a staggering $230,000.
The pedigree of How About Me just ticks each and every box you could think of.
His full brother You Gotta Have Faith is flying in the two year old classics in the South Island while his three quarter blood relatives in Have Faith In Me and Dream About Me are dominating their respective age groups on both sides of the Tasman.
Add in the fact that he was a stunning individual in the flesh and you had the serious players chasing him from the start which meant the momentum was there from the get go.
The buyer is listed as PGG Bloodstock and they were keeping the buyer's name confidential in line with the buyers wishes according to PGG Representative Bruce Barlass.
The under bidders were Mark and Dennis Dunford who own You Gotta Have Faith and while they missed out on How About Me, they jumped right back into the fray ten lots later when they chased and bought Lot 82, Phenomenon.
A full brother to the Sapling Stakes and Kindergarten Stakes winner this season in Pacing Major 1:54.6 ($38,646) the bidding was electric from the start but the Dunfords weren't going to come second twice in a row.
The son of Art Major had the looks to go with the pedigree and like the others in the Dunford ownership, Phenomenon will be joining the All Stars Racing Stables at Rolleston.
