Rocknrollartist runs them ragged

Consistent gelding Rocknrollartist (Rock N Roll Heaven) had things go all his way when he led his harness racing rivals a merry dance in the Ascot Group WA Im Themightyquinn Pace at Gloucester Park on Friday evening.

Showing great speed from barrier 4 Rocknrollartist found his to the front over Longreach Bay and once there was always going to be hard to beat given that equal favourite Minos was caught three wide early before having to race outside the leader.

Driver Aiden De Campo dictated his own terms in front and his task was made easier as the other equal favourite Justcallmemiki was back at the rear. After a leisurely pace in front Rocknrollartist left the other runners standing with a third quarter of 27.6 seconds and in the straight he cruised home an easy winner over Petes Honour with Minos battling on for third after having a hard run.

Justcallmemiki never looked likely from where he was but once hooked on the final bend he rattled home with an eye catching fourth. He’ll be improved by that hit out and should be better for his next start.

Aiden De Campo was pleased following the event.

Lining him up in free for all grade is a little harder than lining him up back in grade. He comes out as fast as he always has. Once Longreach Bay came out and crossed and looked like he was going to take a trail and we got to the front. He pinched that first quarter and we felt he was never going to get beaten. He’s been racing good without luck if he found the front he’s be hard to beat and it proved that way.

The horses on our back were struggling a few horses were trying to make up ground out wide so when you run that really quick quarter along the back it really puts the pressure on them to make up ground. He ran to the line really strongly. Like I said he’s been racing really well up in free for all grade and copping a bit of bad luck here and there so tonight he got the job done.

Rocknrollartist is raced by his breeder Adrian Shanks who trained the seven year old up until two years when he was transferred to De Campo’s stable.

Rocknrollartist is the tenth foal out of the Perfect Art mare Artist’s Impression. Among her other notable progeny are Rmember Me Bel, Heez On Fire and Papinik.
