Rixon out for more points

SHE has already tasted success in one heat but Ellen Rixon will be aiming for more points as the Nicholas Dewar Memorial Rising Stars Series heads to Newcastle tonight.

The defending champion of the series was close to winning another heat at Bankstown last night, however, was narrowly beaten by Series leader Madi Young and Tom Pay by a neck when finishing third on Dance For Glory.

“I’d be happy to be part of the Series again and happy that I have been able to land a winner,” Rixon said.

Tonight, Rixon’s first drive is on Columbian Gold in race two.

“She’s drawn badly and I will have to drive for luck form there,” Rixon said.

For the following heat (race four) Rixon has been assigned the drive on the Ray Harkness-trained Seven Demerits.

“This horse hasn’t been far away lately and hopefully he will continue that form and be there at the finish,” Rixon said.

Rixon’s final drive for the series tonight is on last start winner Ima Birubi Boy (race six).

“This horse is a nice sit-sprinter so he will need the race to go his way but he should be there at the end,” Rixon said.

After landing a heat win at Bathurst on Wednesday night, Rixon is currently in fourth position in the Series of 10 young drivers.

Young has a clear lead after landing winning three of the six heats to date.

This included a heat at Bankstown last night where she won on Flirtatious Hart while the other heat was taken out by Blake Micallef on Fortyeighthenson.
