Republican Party set for million dollar challenge

Although Republican Party’s (Bettor’s Delight) form on paper has tapered off, co-trainer Cran Dalgety says his seventh placing in last Friday’s Cambridge Flying Mile wasn’t as bad as it looked.

“On Friday you look up the result and he ran seventh but he hasn’t run bad. He’s still run the times. It was a real rail running night and when you go 54 half and 26 quarter (off the front) they just can’t go any quicker. He’s probably gone as quick as four out of the seven horses at the finish, it just wasn’t at the front end,” he said.

Dalgety says Republican Party will need a good draw to be competitive in Friday night’s feature.

“Larry (Leap To Fame) and as we saw the other night, The Janitor, can make their own luck and do some work. We don’t want to be overtaxing our horse because they’ve got the edge on us. We just have to take the short way home.”

One pleasing aspect about Republican Party at the moment is his recovery after his races.

“In his last three starts up here, it has been the best he’s recovered.”

He also added that when Republican Party was in his purple patch of form he had the draws to either take the lead or trail.

So, for most horses in Friday nights $1 million The Race by Sport Nation, Tuesday’s draw is going to be super important.
