Washington, PA — After stringing 4-5 harness racing favorite Twisted Destiny out for the first three-eighths of the mile, Prince Hal Hanover (Captaintreacherous) took full advantage of a pocket trip behind a pressured pace and rallied up the open stretch to narrowly capture the $385,000 Grade 1 Adios Pace for the Orchids, held Saturday (July 26) at Hollywood Casino at The Meadows.

Todd McCarthy wasted no time getting the Captaintreacherous-Percy Bluechip colt in gear, pushing forward from post eight and seating Sippinonsearoc (driven by Yannick Gingras) in the pocket through a :26 first quarter. Meanwhile, Twisted Destiny (Dexter Dunn) was parked wide of Rick Wink after being out-sprinted to the first turn and was kept wide on his advance to the front.
Twisted Destiny ultimately worked clear of Prince Hal Hanover with just under a lap to go, was stung to the half in :53.3, and faced pressure from 86-1 outsider Makes Sense heading to three-quarters in 1:21.2.
Off the corner for home, Twisted Destiny responded to Makes Sense’s challenge, but Prince Hal Hanover set sail up the open stretch to strike the front in the final sixteenth and seal a lifetime-best 1:48.1 win. Swingtown (Ronnie Wrenn Jr.) rallied belatedly around failed cover to just nab Twisted Destiny for runner-up honors.

Time Of The Season sustained a first-over grind en route to a lifetime-best 1:49.2 score in the $57,185 second division of the Mickey Burke Adioo Volo while Allegra Hanover held sway for a 1:50.2 win in the $56,185 first split, giving Dexter Dunn a sweep of the Grade 3 event for 3-year-old pacing fillies.
Time Of The Season, a Birnam Wood Farms homebred trained by Tim Twaddle, angled out from fourth up the backstretch and took aim at even-money favorite Asphalt (Tim Tetrick) approaching three-quarters in 1:21.3. The Bettor’s Wish-Macharoundtheclock filly worked to the lead turning for home and edged away to win by 1-1/4 lengths. Always Ana Hanover (Ronnie Wrenn Jr.) finished third.

Dunn used similar tactics in the first division, pushing first-up with Allegra Hanover up the backstretch before wearing down 4-5 favorite Shes A Streaker (Yannick Gingras) on the far turn and holding off a late rally from 40-1 outsider Ballast (Todd McCarthy) to win by a half length. Fancy Like Louuuuu (Aaron Merriman) closed belatedly for third.
