Red-letter night for Ballarat stud

Saturday, July 25 proved a red-letter day for prominent Ballarat trotting breeding establishment, Haras Des Trotteurs, which produced a Group winner in Queensland and a winning double at the Shepparton metropolitan meeting.

The widely travelled Il Pirata NZ, a gelding by Love You, notched his 13th success and his first at Group level when he outfinished a strong lineup in the Group 3 $25,770 Queensland Trotters Cup at Albion Park. The $14,900 winner’s cheque boosted his lifetime stake tally to $172,276.

Earlier in the night, the highly promising young trotters Cash Lover (by Ready Cash) and Cracker Jet (by Quaker Jet) both greeted the judge at Shepparton.

Cash Lover, a four-year-old mare bred by Haras Des Trotteurs principal Pat Driscoll, made it five straight with a convincing front-end win, while the three-year-old Cracker Jet completed a hat trick following a barnstorming finishing burst from midfield.

Cash Lover was one of three winners bred by Yabby Dam Farms for the week. The others were Beau Garcon (by Orlando Vici), who posted his fifth win at Shepparton, and Mataderos, who completed back-to-back successes at Terang.

Meanwhile, Afterburner, a three-year-old gelding by The Best Madrik, was a very impressive winner at Invercargill, New Zealand, carving out the last 800 in 59.5 and 400 in 28.9 under a hold.

Love You, Quaker Jet, Orlando Vici, The Best Madrik and Ready Cash’s sons Bold Eagle and Brillantissime are all members of Haras Des Trotteurs’ frozen semen roster in the coming season.
