In a coup for breeders in NSW’s central west region it has been announced that Raging Bull will stand this season at Artistic Lodge, Blayney, of leading studmasters Jody Bryant and Cynthia Bourke.

His service fee is a modest $1,650 including GST with multiple mare discounts and deals for on-farm mares.

Raging Bull, who originally stood stud in New Zealand, has sired 50 individual winners in Australasia for progeny earnings in excess of $2.2 million from limited stud chances.

Among his winners have been the WA Pacing Cup and Governor’s Cup winner Wildwest 1:52.8 ($619,218), the NSW Raith Memorial victor Our Bare Knuckle 1:51.5 ($100,340), the metropolitan winners Raging Whitebait 1:53 ($175,978), Give Me A Minute 1:52 ($129,140), Waikaki Magic (1:51.8), Mi Furioso Toro and Getarattleon, the NZ country cups star Village Rebel ($125,601) and the exported Princess Holly ($110,167).

His first Australian crop are currently racing as two-year-olds.

Raging Bull is now making his mark as a broodmare sire headed up by the $500,000 NZ The Velocity 3YO winner Better Knuckle Up 1:53.3 ($435,158), Blazing Knuckles (1:57.8) and Unico Realty.

Only lightly raced due to a leg injury, Raging Bull earned $115,581 from five wins and five placings from 10 starts competing exclusively in town hall company.

In fact, he had his colours lowered by only three horses during his career – the Inter Dominion champion Smolda, the Miracle Mile winner Christen Me and the four-time Group 1 winner Ideal Scott.

On the score of blood Raging Bull lacks nothing. His sire Christian Cullen was a champion with stake earnings of $1.2 million and topped the NZ sires’ list on five occasions and the broodmare sires’ table seven times.

Raging Bull is his only son standing stud on a commercial basis in this country.

San Sophia (by Artsplace), the American-bred dam of Raging Bull, has been one of the gems of the stud book. She is the dam of 10 individual winners, nine of whom took records of better than 2:00 with three earning $100,000 or more.

She ranks as a sister to the USA 3YO Filly and 4YO Mare of the Year Galleria 1:49 ($1.8million), the dam of the Breeders Crown champion Sandbetweenmytoes (1:48.6) and the world champion juvenile Gallie Bythe Beach (1:49).

Raging Bull is a Direct Scooter line horse – that which produced Somebeachsomewhere – from one of the top families in the world. He should prove an ideal outcross to mares boasting Bettor’s Delight and Artsplace blood and others.
