Proven family heads to Adelaide Sale

Proven Family Heads to Adelaide Sale

By Gary Newton ·

Husband-and-wife breeders Shane and Michele Collins may operate on a small scale, but their support of the SA Australian Yearling Sale in recent years has been unwavering.

The pair purchased the Real Desire mare Our Burning Desire—in foal to Major Secret—at the 2022 SA BOTRA Sale. Now, at the upcoming APG Adelaide Sale, the Collins will present a filly by Major Secret from the proven producer Our Burning Desire.

Our Burning Desire won twice in New Zealand before joining the Jess Tubbs stable, where she added a further 11 Australian victories. She has made an even bigger impact in the breeding barn, producing:

  • Gee Smith – 20 wins, $238,457
  • The Huntress – winner of the Vicbred 2YO Fillies Silver Final; 6 Australian wins before export to North America, where she has added another 11 victories
  • Shevchenko – 10 wins to date, including his most recent success at Penrith on March 12

This filly’s second dam, the In The Pocket mare Knowing Pocket, produced Bettor Not Knowing (11 wins), while the wider family includes tough, high-class performers such as Natom (30 wins, including 23 in North America) and Red Tip Governor, winner of the Timaru Winter Cup before heading to the USA where he won a further 27 races.

The filly is Southern Cross and Vicbred eligible.

The APG Adelaide Sale will commence at 1pm on Sunday, March 29 at the Gawler Harness Racing Club. Online catalogues are available at: www.apgold.com.au/apg-sales/online-sales-catalogues/2026-adelaide-sale (apgold.com.au in Bing)
