The Rodney Ashwood-trained Stable Talk announced himself as a player ahead of Friday night’s Group 2 Dandy Patch heats after winning the Lather Up @ Woodlands Stud Pace (1609m) at Ladbrokes Park Elwick in Hobart on Sunday afternoon.

The colt by Poster Boy out of Spoilt Sport was part of a double inside the first two races for driver Jordan Chibnall.

Chibnall positioned Stable Talk ($6.50) one-out, two-back before letting down strongly in the home straight to reel in the leader and race favourite, Ann Penny ($2.25), who eventually faded to finish fourth after suffering a flat tyre in the score-up.

Mystery Mail ($6) and Bettor Call Lou ($14) both came from well back in the field to fill the placings, with just 2.1m separating the first four horses across the line.

The trifecta from Sunday’s race are all Tasbred pacers, making a rematch likely in the Dandy Patch heats for Tasbred Colts & Geldings in Hobart on Friday night.

Father-son duo Steven & Brodie Davis combined for two winners on the 10-event card, with their first winner providing Brodie with his 150th driving victory.

Winning Brew ($1.75 fav) won the Register for the Dynamo 13th November Pace (1609m) before Rocky Stride ($3 fav) took out a NR 65 to 74 event over 2090m a little later in the program.

Punters were on top for most of the afternoon, with six starting-price favourites winning, the shortest of them Horatius Speculo ($1.24). Driver Tarn Ford remained perfect in four drives with the Tammy Langley-trained pacer, who has now won 13 of his 24 career starts.

Other winning favourites included Twilight Storm ($1.65), A lot Like Pendles ($2) and Treacherous Dan ($1.75).

The day’s blowout came in the final race, with One Big Shew ($21) continuing a strong recent run for trainer Adrian Duggan.
