NZ Cup Blow as Got The Chocolates Suffers Injury Setback
New Zealand harness racing has been dealt a major blow with emerging superstar Got The Chocolates ruled out for an extended period after suffering a fractured hind sesamoid.

The injury was revealed on Saturday morning, with respected New Zealand racing commentator Matt Markham reporting the setback on social media.
“Huge blow to the NZ Cup from a Kiwi perspective this morning. Got The Chocolates has fractured a hind sesamoid and is out for an extended period of time. A real shame as he was the one most thought could really push the best of the Australians.”
The Robert and Jenna Dunn-trained four-year-old had established himself as one of New Zealand’s brightest pacing stars following a sensational campaign. His dominant victory in the Group 1 New Zealand Messenger elevated him to second favouritism for the New Zealand Cup behind Australian champion Leap To Fame, after convincingly defeating dual NZ Cup winner Swayzee.
Widely regarded as New Zealand’s leading hope to halt Australia’s recent dominance in the country’s biggest race, Got The Chocolates had developed into a genuine Grand Circuit contender after winning 13 races and showing explosive speed and versatility.
The injury now leaves a significant void in the New Zealand Cup picture, with connections and fans facing an anxious wait to determine the full extent of the recovery period.
Further veterinary updates and information on his rehabilitation are expected in the coming days.
