Nymbal’s breathtaking effort to snatch Carousel Final
Classy three year old Nymbal (Lazarus) finished with a withering burst to upset hot harness racing favourite Palladium in this year’s edition of the Carousel Pacers Final at Menangle on Saturday evening.

The New Zealand bred gelding created a big impression when at his Australian debut in June when he easily won the Redcliffe Derby. Despite winning a heat of the Carousel, Nymbal was second favourite behind the Queensland Derby winner Palladium who was also impressive winning his heat of the Carousel.
NYMBAL 19 SEP REPLAY
In a fast run race early Lexus Lou held the early lead but when Palladium went around the field he was allowed to stride to the front. Nymbal was pushed back four on the rails and as the field bunched up he became hopelessly boxed in with driver Robert Morris looking for a clear run.
Palladium was travelling strongly and when he ran his third quarter in 26.9 seconds he appeared to have his rivals off the bit. Maurlen Boy and Buzz Bomb were battling away and Nymbal was still looking for a run at the top of the straight. But when the run came Nymbal started to sprout wings and with Morris sticking to the inside he quickly overwhelmed Palladium to end up a comfortable winner and Maurlen Boy. Buzz Bomb finished a close fourth after having to face the breeze and it was a brave performance.

It’s obvious that Nymbal has a great future in front of him but unfortunately being New Zealand bred is ineligible for the Eureka.
The trotters division was won by Ezra Kai (Tennotrump) who had a perfect trail behind hot favourite Zenith Stride and then held off late challenges from Should Beabarca and Last Clansman who both finished on credibly to take out the placings.

Zenith Stride didn’t show a lot of fight when tackled and weakened for fourth.
EZRA KAI 19 SEP REPLAY
Ezra Kai is trained by Luke McCarthy for Shepparton identity Courtney Laker who sent the four year old gelding to McCarthy. It was a patient drive by Jack Callaghan who has handled Ezra Kai in his three appearances to date at Menangle.
