More guts - Mor Moonlight

By Harnesslink ·

Mor Moonlight (One Over Da Moon) showed plenty of guts and determination when she won the Majestic Son At Alabar Mobile Trot at Invercargill today. By the end of the 2200 metre trip she was starting to tie up, but bravely kept her gait to win by a length and a half from Mumsdawitch.

“She trotted good until the last 150 metres before she started to tie up a bit. It’s an ongoing battle with her this time of year. She’s done really well to finish it off and keep trotting,” trainer driver Kirstin Green said. “We’re on all the products and taking all the advice. I think we’re just going to have to lock her up,” she added.

Owned by Tom and Julie Kilkelly, Jason McMath and Alan Dennis, Green says Mor Moonlight is worked every day to help alleviate the issue.

“I’d like to line her up in The Dark Horse but we’ll see how she comes through this run. If we can get on top of these issues, potentially she’s very good. She’s got a lot of high speed but she just can’t find her true worth because she’s tying up. What she did at Ashburton (Listed Mainland Repairs Mobile Trot for three year old fillies) showed what she is capable of.”

The win goes some way to compensate for the retirement of Fiery Bandito, also bred and owned by Kilkelly.

“Arthritis has got the better of him. He’d been super, so it was pretty gutting really. At his last trial before he went up there (Canterbury) he really showed good speed,” Green said.

Fiery Bandito won nine races and over $120,000 over three seasons on racing.

As a five year old the giant squaregaiter won six of his sixteen starts. He ran second in the G3 Ashburton Trotters Sprint behind Bet N Win and third in the Listed Uncut Gems.

Meanwhile Rack’Em Up (Betting Line) provided Mataura trainer Lyndon Bond with his 100th training win.

His first winner was Martin McGuiness driven by Nathan Williamson at Forbury Park in December 2015.

His biggest winners have been Step It Up A Notch (15), Tweedle Dee (10), Crusher Collins (8), Del’s Creation (5) and Martin McGuiness (5).

Nearly half of his wins have been with trotters.
