Metro Series returns to Alexandra Park after winter break

By Harnesslink Media ·

The ever-popular Metro Series is back at Alexandra Park after taking a break since June, with heats set down for Friday, August 28.

Two $15,000 heats go around that night, four heats in total: R35-40 for three-year-olds and older pacers, and R35-45 for three-year-olds and older trotters.

The top five from each heat qualify, if nominated, for two $30,000 Finals back at the Park on Friday, September 4. Win both a heat and the final and that final runs penalty-free.

The series remains a cornerstone of HRNZ’s Look North strategy, launched in 2024 to build up racing in the north.

Viscount Mackendon won the last Metro Trotters Final at the Park on June 26, driven by Crystal Hackett for trainers Michelle Wallis and Bernie Hackett. Turn O The Tide took out the Pacers Final for David Bucher and trainers Steve and Amanda Telfer.

Further heats follow on September 25 and October 2, building to a $30,000 Final on October 9, all at Alexandra Park.
