FIRST 2YO STAKES SET FOR WEDNESDAY
Wednesday’s harness racing card will feature a total of seven stake races for freshman trotting fillies.
Three divisions of the top-level PA Sire Stake will be held, along with four splits of the PA Stallion Series. In the Meadow Gladys PASS, the first division is headlined by morning line favorite Nuance, a $310,000 yearling purchase last fall by the Marcus Melander Stable. Dexter Dunn will drive the Greenshoe filly in her first career start.
Leading the second division on the morning line is Cherry’s Girl, a Captain Corey filly trained by Tim Twaddle for driver Anthony MacDonald. The $42,000 purchase last fall is officially 1-for-1, after winning a Maiden race at The Meadows on June 18 in 1:58.2.
Finally, the third division is led by Patrick’s Belle, trained locally by Aaron Johnston and driven by Aaron Merriman. The Father Patrick filly, a modest $16,000 purchase, has already paid dividends for her connections. She banked $20,000 last week, winning a Kentucky stake at Oak Grove in 1:56.3.
QUICK MILES FROM FIRST-TIME STARTERS
Last week saw the debut of a pair of fast two-year-olds at The Meadows. The filly pacer Spoon Fed, a Stay Hungry homebred from the Doug Snyder Stable, won a Maiden pace in 1:53.4 for driver Dave Palone. The next day, another offspring of Stay Hungry, Thai Hanover, went wire-to-wire for trainer Mitchell York and driver Jeremy Indof, in 1:52.3. At the time, both miles were national seasons record performances.
