Meadowlands to open Sports Betting day early
EAST RUTHERFORD, NJ — The Meadowlands Racetrack has announced that it will open its legalized sports betting service on July 14, one day sooner than previously scheduled according to the www.northjersey.com.
The racetrack's operator, Jeff Gural, told reporters last month that July 15 would be the first day of legal sports betting at the Meadowlands.
But on Monday, the track's General Manager Jason Settlemoir, told NorthJersey.com that the new service will begin on July 14.
"The timing is much better and in correlation with one of our biggest race days, the Meadowlands Pace," Settlemoir stated.
The Victory Sports Bar and Club, where patrons will place their bets, is set to open to "dignitaries" at 9:30 a.m. After a series of speeches, those special guests will have the honor of placing the first legal sports wagers at the Meadowlands track.
At 11 a.m., the club will open to the general public, allowing wagers on professional and college sports, said Keith Wall, an international representative of the online gambling company Betfair.
Betfair has partnered with the Meadowlands track, offering their own in-house odds and other services.
