Matt Craven scoops a double

Matt Craven scoops a double

By Darrell Wood ·

Terang trainer landed a double at Melton on Saturday evening through his pair of Love Ya Brother (Love You) and All Blazing Guns (Sweet Lou) who caused a boilover against a strong harness racing field.

Love Ya Brother was not highly fancied against an average trotters field which saw Dhoni Trouble take the lead with Boutika taking a trail and Love Ya Brother four back on the rails.

Hot favourite Mojito Madness was well back in the field and never seemed a prospect to catch the field.

LOVE YA BROTHER 9 MAY REPLAY

Dhoni Trouble tried to steal the race and looked likely as if he would do so on straightening. However Craven never left the rails and in a storming finish came home too strongly to score by just under four metres from Dhoni Trouble with Ess Kay Hollywood in third placing.

An eight year old Love Ya Brother has been lightly raced for six wins and three placings from just 18 appearances.

His dam Maori Tessa has also left Dutch Teacher (5 wins) and Hypnotise Me (2 wins).

ALL BLAZING GUNS 9 MAY REPLAY

All Blazing Guns was totally friendless in the betting which saw an interesting field that included Star To Fall and Fire Marshall. Both had hard runs with Fire Marshall outside the leader while Star To Fall was out three wide for the final lap. Not surprisingly they were a sitting duck and the race saw All Blazing Guns rattling up on the inside to defeat Star To Fall and Fire Marshall. Usyk who finished fourth was desperately unlucky after being held up in the home straight.

Matt Craven commented after his double success.

If it panned out like that in every race it would be ideal. To get a win with both is pretty pleasing. It’s a bit unexpected we were happy with how they felt and how they were in themselves. But I still felt they needed the runs. But sometimes things fall into place and that was ideal.

He’s always been that’s not had a great constitution. So we gave him a really good spell. This time in he seems to have come back a bit better in himself. And seems to be holding his weight a bit better.  If he can continue with that we’ll be pretty pleased and hopefully he can show up here again at some stage. I’m very pleased for Pam Coniglio (owner) I know tonight it’ll be pretty emotional for her. It’s just lovely to him back at the races and get a win for her.

A shout out for the team at home. My fiancée Amy (Day) and Mum and Dad. Amy working by herself tonight at home so I can be here tonight and have me ready to go to the races tomorrow at Ouyen. These results are what we do it for.
