Massive pick me up for Williamson

Clotilde Wainwright proved the perfect tonic for trainer Nathan Williamson as he recovers from a race night injury that fractured his skull just over a week ago.

“There will not be a more popular win in harness racing in New Zealand this month I  reckon,” commentator Matt Cross said at the end of his commentary.

Driver and good mate Craig Ferguson managed to push Clotilde Wainwright (Majestic Son) through the field early. She was soon in front and went down to the line to win by five and a half lengths from Freya (Volstead) with Pyramid Rose (Majestic Son) finishing third a length and three quarters back.

“She’s gone absolutely super. Full credit to her. She trotted perfect and we managed to get a great run through. I thought I’d like to stay in front of those better ones if I could. She’s absolutely jogged that. I’m sure that’ll cheer Nat up a wee bit,” Ferguson said.

Owned by Williamson along with his parents- in-law Robyn and Ross Jones, Barry Dent, Graham Dent and Kirstin Mitchener, the win was Clotilde Wainwright’s fourth in just ten starts.

She’s out of the eight win Armbro Invasion mare Poppymalda which Williamson also trained.
