Mach Three quinella's Sires Stakes heat
Mach Three, like all stallions in Australasia has to live in the shadow of the champion stallion Bettor's Delight but he continues to do a great job especially with foal crops that are significantly smaller than his competition.
This years two year old crop by Mach Three numbers just 102 foals where as Bettor's Delight has 249 foals that are two this season so it is a bit pointless trying to compare the two stallions in any meaningful way.
Mach Three has already had a couple of Young Guns heat winners at Alexandra Park this season in the form of the very smart Mongolian Hero 1:57 ($23,200) and Alta Intrigue 1:58.6 ($23,200) and today at Timaru Raceway in the first of the Sires Stakes for Two Year old Fillies, Mach Three had two of the six runners in the $22,000 heat.
Renske B, a Mach Three filly from a Falcon Seelster half sister to Changeover 1:53.4 ($2,321,677) from the All Stars barn was a red hot favourite while the other Mach Three runner was Maczaffair from the Greg Payne barn who had been trialling very well prior to todays debut.
As the mobile gate went Greg Payne sent Maczaffair straight to the front while Tim Williams gave Renske B time to find her feet before going up and sitting on Maczaffair's wheel with a lap to go.
These two matched strides for the rest of the race and as they turned for home the pair were still at it.
Maczaffair had half a length on Renske B for most of the Timaru straight but in the last 75 metres Renske B lifted and got its nose in front right on the line.
Renske B ran the 2000 metres in 2:31.5, a mile rate of 2:01.9 which is okay but they flew the last 800 metres in 55.4 and 400 metres in 27.6
The result was a timely reminder with this years yearling sales only just over a week away that Mach Three continues to produce smart age group performers with every crop.
With an average price of nearly $20,000 less than Bettor's Delight and $15,000 less than Art Major at last years sales, Mach Three represents great value for yearling buyers and there is nothing to suggest that that gap will close this year.
Twenty Mach Three yearlings are catalogued at the Australasian Classic Yearling Sales at Karaka and thirty one at the New Zealand Premier Yearling Sale at Christchurch which gives buyers plenty of options when looking for a Mach Three yearling this year.
