Delbert R. Richards, 68, passed away Tuesday, April 4, at his home surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Caribou,Maine, where he was raised. His love for horses led him to a career in harness racing. He trained and raced throughout New York state and Delaware. Richards was a member of the Harness Horse Racing Association of Central New York; the United states Trotting Association; and the Delaware Standardbred Owners Association.

In his free time, Delbert enjoyed spending time at Murphys Sports Bar watching races.

He is survived by his wife, Debbie (DePaul) Richards; two sons, Delbert Richards, Jr. & his significant other, Bobbie Swain; and Robert Richards & wife, Dawn; a daughter, Amy Lam Clair & husband, Verne, of New York State; his daughter-in-law, Berna Richards; his parents, Ray & Marjorie(Clarke) Richards, of Harrington, Del.; sister, Judy Leonard (Larry), of Maryland; and grandchildren. A gathering of family and friends was held April 7,.2017,in Pippin Funeral Home, Inc., Wyoming, Del.
