CHARLOTTETOWN, PE – After facing the best that the East Coast has to offer, Likely To Win drops back to Thursday night competition this week at Red Shores at the Charlottetown Driving Park.
First race post time is 6:30 P.M. for the 12-dash Thursday evening card at the capital oval. Likely To Win is shouldered with post 6 in his latest test with Adam Merner in the bike in the $2,100 featured event in the race 12 evening finale. The son of Western Terror was racing the top flight preferred pace at Red Shores Charlottetown, faring well with a second and fourth place finish but now goes back to midweek competition where he was a dominate force all season. Likely To Win is trained by Melissa Rennie for Nova Scotia owners Blenise Young and Lester Campbell along with Alberta owner Jeffrey Campbell.
Good Luck Kathy has rail control in the finale for driver Walter Cheverie after knocking off the Open pacing mares last Saturday at Red Shores Charlottetown, while the ultra-consistent Oh To Be Me has post 4 with Gary Chappell at the controls.
Race analyst Les MacIsaac puts his faith in Likely To Win off the class drop.
"While this is an excellent group, they might be a step below what Likely To Win faces on a weekly basis," MacIsaac said. "It is a Tough post but he's got the versatility to handle any style so he gets top billing."
Other entries include Simon Said (Corey MacPherson), Perfect Escape (Gilles Barrieau), Jeb (Jason Hugfhes) and Zingers Laugh (Ken Murphy).
The back-up pace hits the track in race 8 for a $1,800 pot with Narragansett the morning line choice from post 2 for trainer-driver Hughes and owner Ashley Gamester of Hunter River. The 31-time winner has hit the board in his four latest outings but runs into a gritty field including Give Em Heck from post 4 with Barrieau at the lines and Jetster with rail control for catch driver Corey MacPherson.
