Lexicon gets maiden win

Lexicon gets maiden win

By Harnesslink ·

It wasn’t the plan, but it didn’t matter as Lexicon (Muscle Mass) got a well-deserved maiden win at Addington last night for Woodend Beach trainer Bob Butt.

“I wanted her to get a sit, but four (back on the) fence is niggly enough. So when Nathan (Nathan Williamson driving Kings Landing) was outside me I thought he might follow me up. But he didn’t. She was a lot better without the blinds today,” Butt said after the four year old mare led and was too good, beating favourite Kings Choice by two lengths.

“She’s got the ability to go through the grades but she’s a quirky wee thing,” he added.

Lexicon was bred by Trevor Casey and is owned by Casey and his partner Kate Marriott.

She’s out of Sundon mare Pocaro which won thirteen races for Mark Purdon and Grant Payne. Her major wins were in the Group One Three Year Old Ruby at Ashburton, the Group Three Hambletonian on the same track and the Group Three New Zealand Trotting Oaks at Addington.

At stud she’s left good winners Missandei (9), Westeros (3), Kings Landing (9) and Mexicana (4).

She has also left an unregistered three year old Bold Eagle filly, a What The Hill yearling filly and is in foal again to Muscle Mass.

“She got the last straw from Nevele R so how lucky was that. That will be her last foal because she’s getting old now. Pocaro was the first Jewels winner to leave a Jewels winner (Missandei),” Kate told Harness Unhinged Nigel Armstrong.

Marriott said Lexicon has taken a bit of making.

“She was absolutely magical, she was stunning, gorgeous (as a foal) but very wired and tricky. Bob has been amazingly patient. He took her to all those trials and workouts just to get her going and doing things right because she was a bit fragile in the brain and it’s paid off.”
