Champion pacer KINGMAN (Always B Miki) has added another major milestone to his outstanding career, being officially named the NSW Harness Racing Horse of the Year.

The honour caps off a stellar season for the elite pacer, whose victories in the New Zealand Cup, Victoria Cup and the Christian Cullen 4YO Classic established him as one of the premier performers in Australasian harness racing.

For owner and breeder Mick Harvey, the honour carries a deeply personal meaning, having followed the talented pacer’s journey from birth through to success on the biggest stages of Australian harness racing.

“To have KINGMAN named NSW Horse of the Year is something very special in my home state,” Harvey said.

“When you bred a horse and watch him grow from a foal into competing and winning on the grand circuit, it’s hard to put into words what that means. It’s incredibly meaningful and something I’ll always be proud of.”

KINGMAN’s performances throughout the season captured the attention of the harness racing industry, consistently competing at the elite level and cementing his reputation as one of the sport’s premier performers.

Harvey said the recognition reflected not only the horse’s achievements, but also the enormous team effort required behind the scenes.

“This acknowledgement brings up so many emotions, including gratitude, pride, thankfulness and a real sense of satisfaction,” Harvey said.

“There’s so much work that goes on behind the scenes to get a horse to this level, and to see KINGMAN recognised in this way is very rewarding for everyone involved.”

A major part of KINGMAN’s success has been the care and preparation from the McCarthy stable, with Harvey paying tribute to trainer-driver Luke McCarthy and the wider team.

“I’m very thankful to our whole team, especially Luke McCarthy, who is outstanding both on and off the track,” Harvey said.

“A massive credit and acknowledgement to Luke, Amanda and Craig, who have also done an incredible job managing and preparing KINGMAN every step of the way. This award belongs just as much to them as it does to the horse himself.”

The award further cements KINGMAN’s place among the elite horses in Australian harness racing and caps off a remarkable season.
