Kerry Manning on the road to recovery

Kerry Manning on the road to recovery

Leading harness racing driver Kerryn Manning is slowly on the mend following her recent horror accident at Melton on VicBred night on 12 September.

Although she was able to walk off the track the incident was far more painful and the diagnosis more serious when she returned home.

I’m tracking better this week.

I was in the Ararat hospital for four days but the pain stayed. It was so uncomfortable. I then went in again for three more days for more CT scans and I was still in so much pain. They changed my medication and I started on steroid last Wednesday.

That seemed to take away the inflammation and it may have been a pinched nerve.

Of course this doesn’t take away the fact that Manning fractured three vertebrae, with another displaced.

So I have to rest for six to eight weeks.

Fortunately for Manning she only had four horses in work at the time of her accident.

One went for a spell, and another was sold to Tasmania. Chris Svanosio took over Jet Rock who is ready for racing.

So now at home I’ve just got some miniature ponies.

I’m keen to get back in driving as that what I’m aiming for.  I’m trying to downsize training as I earn more from driving.

Travelling doesn’t seem to faze Manning although she did say that as we get tired as you get older.

Manning expects that most of the healing will be complete by end October beginning November but she will be guided as to when she’s ready again to get back into the cart.

One thing is for certain, Kerry Manning is one of our most respected and cherished ambassador’s for the sport and everyone in harness racing is looking forward to seeing back on the track with her trademark reassuring and friendly demeanour and willingness to help others in the sport.
