Wonder mare Keayang Zahara (Volstead) continues to break records and in last night’s Group 1 $75,000 Ladbrokes Cranbourne Cup she scored with effortless ease against her six harness racing rivals.

The big striding brown mare came out of the gate with speed and she eventually headed off the early leader Rockinwithattitude. Im Bobby tried to go with Keayang Zahara but was then eased back to fourth position.
With nothing taking him on Jason Lee on Keayang Zahara was content to set a comfortable pace and she got away with a leisurely 31.5 seconds for the second quarter.
Rockinwithattitude tried to stick with Keayang Zahara and Im Bobby momentarily looked to be issuing a challenge but on straightening Keayang Zahara was still coasting and Lee just let stride to the line just under ten metres in front of a gallant Rockinwithattitude with Im Bobby another twelve metres away third.
KEAYANG ZAHARA 31 JAN REPLAY
The win was Keayang Zahara’s 23rd from 24 appearances and she has now won $1,010,535 in stake money.
The mare only now has to win the Great Southern Star on Hunter Cup night on 14 February to earn her connections a $500,000 bonus.

Jason Lee was in awe of his wonder mare’s performance.
She was terrific. It’s not the easiest track and she obviously corners really well. I put her in a longer bike tonight just to be safe. But she was super. I probably just run down the back just a little bit. But she never put a foot wrong. She had a bit left. She was doing it pretty easy. I’m very happy.
The team will look at her and plan but I’d say it will be the Great Southern Star as it’s the logical thing to do with the Great Southern Star being a Heat into the Final. It’s pretty unique she’s never done that before but I’m sure she’ll handle it fine.
Winning any race is fantastic. It never gets lost on you especially when you’re lucky to get to sit behind one like this. It hits that she has quite an effect on people and you have to give these really good horses to the people and let them be a piece of everyone. Everybody loves a champion.
