Just Like Jagger (Vincent) had to pull out the brave card at the Wyndham HRC meeting at Cromwell today when she beat her stablemate in a frantic finish.
From the outside draw, trainer driver Kirstin Green sent the four year old mare forward and after 100 metres she was in front with stablemate The Orange Roughie sitting in the trail.
Coming up the straight, The Orange Roughie ran up the passing lane and got three quarters of a length in front of Just Like Jagger. But Just Like Jagger under a hard drive by Green, clawed the advantage back to win by a head.
“I thought he was going to go right past us. He got past us but when I asked her she really dug in in that last 100,” Green said.
JUST LIKE JAGGER REPLAY
Green has always had a high opinion of Just Like Jagger and thought at one stage she was an Oaks filly.
“We took her up to Christchurch but she suffered a minor injury and we had to turn her out for eight weeks so that was the end of that. It’s taken her a long time to come back. I think she’s on the way now.”
The win was Just Like Jagger’s third in just thirteen starts.
“I thought a bit of her for a long time but we’ve had a few hiccups with her along the way. She’s still a little bit dumb in front. She really dug in today and she got a flat tyre at the top of the straight.”

Just Like Jagger was bred by the Slone family and is raced by The Rolling Stones Syndicate. She’s out of five win mare Machjagger whom Green also trained.
“The owners are up here holidaying so we will line her up again on Sunday. She’s got the Southern Belle Series and she’s Harness 5000 eligible.”
Machjagger’s dam Mach N Elle left Green her only Group One winner Watch Me Now, and is also the dam of Now Watch Me which won earlier in the day for Yaldhurst trainer Regan Todd and driver Seth Hill.
“They’ve been very loyal, very patient and I’m thankful to have them in the barn.”
Another foal out of Mach N Elle, Mach A Wish, won at the Winton Workouts on Thursday.
