John Allen speech annual conference 2016

By Harnesslink ·

The 2016 New Zealand harness racing annual conference was held in Christchurch on the 29th and 30th July.

Harnesslink will cover some aspects of this years annual conference in more detail over the coming days.

Several high profile TAB heads of staff were in Christchurch to speak at the annual conference on Friday and also to answer any questions put to them from harness racing club representatives.

TAB CEO John Allen spoke at some length about many facets of the TAB and some of the issues they are facing and how they might fix them. He stated the TAB has delivered on increasing turnover and profits over the last year while battling betting leakage, deterioration of trackside camera's and machinery and an old Jetbet system that needs replacing along with many other issues. It is interesting to note that fixed odds betting with the TAB as a whole has grown to over a billion dollars per annum and the exciting part of this for harness racing says John, is the remarkable transformation of the harness fixed odds betting platform. Fixed odds betting margins for harness racing have increased from 7.8% to 11.6% or from 6 million dollars to over 9 million dollars, a 50% increase in actual revenue over the previous 12 months.
