It’s been a long & enjoyable journey at Temuka Park

Lot 333 - Sire: Ultimate Sniper NZ | Dam: Lucy Frances

Zoe Ellis has been breeding and selling yearlings successfully at the WA Sales for the past 50 years. However, due to health reasons this year’s draft will be the penultimate year for her.

Zoe has been trading under the Temuka Park moniker for most or all of those years, Temuka being a town in New Zealand around 140 kilometres south of Christchurch where her husband Murray was raised and educated for the first 20 years of his life.

One of the greatest legends of the horse racing world in Phar Lap first saw light of day just down the road from Temuka in the neighbouring town of Timaru.

On March 1, Zoe will offer two lovely yearlings under the Temuka Park banner as well as the full brother to the WA Oaks winner Taking The Miki, in partnership with John Coffey. Lot 333 is the first of her draft and this filly by Ultimate Sniper is a snappy looking youngster that looks to have two-year-old speed written all over her.

The dam is a half-sister to the 2022 Australian 2YO Pacing Colt of the Year in Never Ending 1:54.6, while the grand-dam is a half-sister to the dam of the millionaire pacer David Hercules 1:52.7.

The sire of this filly, Ultimate Sniper, has sired 10 individual winners from his first crop (now 3-year-olds) of just 32 live foals, so there are lots of reasons to think she could be a contender for the Sales Races in 2027. Lot 369 is the second of the Temuka draft and this is a strong looking, well grown colt by Vincent.

Vincent, who was a Top Ten Sire on the Australian sires’ premiership last season, has met with quite remarkable success in WA having sired the $100,000 plus earners Reinette 1:56.2, Our Vinnie 1:56.5, Princess Katie 1:56.1 and Thelittle Master 1:53.7.

The dam of this colt has produced three winners to date including Riverina Flash, the winner of 16 races and $137,418 in prizemoney. She is also a half-sister to the $600,000 plus winner Aussie Reactor 1:50.6. Zoe is also the vendor along with John Coffey of Lot 358.

This colt, by the all-conquering stallion Always B Miki, is a full brother to Taking The Miki 1:51.2. Taking The Miki was in the first Australian crop of Always B Miki and was an outstanding filly on WA tracks, being Group One placed at two and then winning the WA Oaks as a three-year-old as well as finishing third in the 2022 WA Derby to Tricky Miki.

Taking The Miki competed in 20 Group races in WA in a three-season career, so interest in her full brother, who is a similar type to her, should keep Zoe very busy on Sales weekend.
