Indulge Me ready for Nevele R heat

The pointy end of the season is fast approaching and Southland trainer Nathan Williamson feels Indulge Me (Downbytheseaside) is beginning to peak as she heads towards her key assignments, the Nevele R Fillies Final and the New Zealand Oaks.

“I’m really happy with her. She’s trained on really well and she’s slowly and surely going forward. In her last two starts she’s been beaten but I think her training since, has improved,” he said.

The three year old’s key rivals Cherish Me (8) and Cath (9) have both drawn on her outside for the 1980 metre mobile while other favoured runners have drawn the second row.

Cath is expected to head forward in tonight’s fillies feature and Williamson will then have to weigh up his options.

Once through the Nevele R heat, Indulge Me will race in the Hilarious Guest next week before heading home for a small freshener.

“We’ll just change things around a bit with her training and try and get her bang on for Cup Day. She’ll probably have a local run somewhere.”

Indulge Me will be joined in tonight’s race by two other Southland based fillies in Havtimewillfly and Miki’s Deal, both from Brett Gray’s stable.

Wyndham trainer Craig Ferguson also ventures north with maiden pacer Beast Mode (Always B Miki) and trotting filly Imperious Girl (Imperial Count).

Beast Mode is a half brother to the highly talented Street Art whose career was cut short after winning five of his seven starts. Ferguson has given Beast Mode a solid foundation of trials and workouts and the southern horseman has a great record of producing first start winners.

Imperious Girl after winning her first three starts, broke badly in the Macca Lodge Classique but made up a huge stretch of ground to run fifth before stewards disqualified her for galloping in excess of 150 metres.

She’s back to the standing start tonight.
