John “Tappy” Tapp is one of Australia’s most celebrated race callers and storytellers. Across a career spanning more than five decades, he called over 50,000 races and became a familiar voice on radio and television.

Awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia in 1996, John was inducted into the Australian Racing Hall of Fame in 2025.

Harnesslink owner Mick Harvey said: “We’re absolutely delighted to welcome an iconic racing personality like Tappy to our team. His incredible experience, knowledge and history in the sport will bring something special to Harnesslink.

“I’m equally delighted that Tappy will have the opportunity to connect with harness racing enthusiasts and participants throughout Australia and across the worldwide harness racing community.”

For Mick, the partnership also reflects a personal appreciation of John’s storytelling.

“I’ve recently enjoyed a few lunches with Tappy, his wife Anne and son David, listening to his wonderful accounts of people, horses, races and memorable racing occasions. I invite all Harnesslink readers and the wider harness racing fraternity to join us in welcoming Tappy and enjoy his stories and insights. I’m sure you’ll enjoy them just every bit as much as I have.”

John’s contributions will celebrate the people, horses and moments that make harness racing special, bringing his distinctive stories and voice to readers around the world.
