Resuming from a spell Hesitate was drawn on the outside of the second row and was eased back to the rear by driver Luke McCarthy. Golden Tribe found the early lead with crack New South Wales youngster Soho Gunslinger taking the trail behind the leader.

Miki B and then Sanchez started to gather in the leaders but Hesitate who was still spotting them with what appeared to be an impossible start but in the last 80 metres Hesitate sprouted wings to snatch a win over Sanchez and Miki B.

Hesitate’s mile rate was 1.51.2 for the 1720 metres. His jubilant owner Mick Harvey owner of Harnesslink, was ecstatic with the stallion’s performance.

He’s a superstar and Luke never even released the plugs.

HESITATE 15 FEB REPLAY

In winning Hesitate gained automatic selection for the premier four year old classic the Group 1 Chariots of Fire at Menangle on March 7.

Luke McCarthy was impressed with Hesitate’s performance.

Probably at the top of the back straight I was in an impossible spot. The ones ahead of me were just not carrying me into the race. When I pulled him out he’s just got that high speed, he was just super. He had a good three year old season, he made $300,000 for the year and he ran third in the Eureka.

He’s had a good spell now. So its actually the happiest I’ve ever been with him. He looks really good, he’s grown a little bit. And we’ll set him for the Chariots in a couple of weeks. He’s at that free for all level. He could have one run but more likely straight into the Chariots.
