Havtimemajor rockets into Protostar contention

Havtime Major rockets into Protostar contention

Exciting juvenile Havtimemajor (Art Major) could scarcely have been more impressive when making a winning Australian harness racing debut at Albion Park on Tuesday.

The Chantal Turpin-trained youngster justified his prohibitive $1.04 favouritism in the Burwood Stud 2YO Maiden Pace, cruising to a dominant 43.1 metre victory after producing a dazzling 53.9sec final half.

Driven by Pete McMullen, Havtimemajor led throughout before the reinsman asked the two-year-old to quicken approaching the 600 metre mark. The response was immediate.

The son of champion sire Art Major ripped home in individual quarters of 27.5 and 26.4 seconds, leaving his rivals struggling in his wake as he stopped the clock in a mile rate of 1:55.6 over the 1660 metres.

HAVTIMEMAJOR REPLAY

Tuesday’s performance came as little surprise to those closest to the gelding. Bred by Havtime Breeding in New Zealand and originally prepared by Brett Gray, Havtimemajor won both a workout and qualifying trial before being purchased by Queensland owner Ross Patrick and transferred to the powerful Turpin stable.

He was kept quiet in winning two trials in QLD prior to today’s debut, including a 1:56.9 performance last week at Albion Park.

By Art Major and out of the American Ideal mare Musthavtime, Havtimemajor is bred on the same cross as multiple G1 winning mare Kualoa. What do they have in common? They both possess speed and power rarely seen in a juvenile.

While it was only a maiden victory, the authority of the performance and his electrifying finishing speed immediately thrust Havtimemajor into calculations for the rich $500,000 Benstud Protostar on 11 July in just under three week’s time.

If his debut display is any indication, QLD may have uncovered its next juvenile star.
