Harrington stable fires on all cylinders

Harrington stable fires on all cylinders

By Mike Sweeney ·

Bangor, Maine …  By just about by any definition or measure, the Sara and Andy Harrington stable enjoyed an outstanding racing experience at Bangor Raceway on Sunday (November 1), celebrating a pair of wins and three runner-up placings from a succession of eight entries that they capably sent to the post.

The Herculean effort involved in merely transporting eight horses from their Windsor Fairground base to historic Bass Park is daunting enough, but then managing the mechanics of checking in, properly equipping, warming up, and eventually racing a string of eight is certainly not for the feint of heart. Add in the post-race responsibilities of stripping, bathing, wrapping, cooling out, and managing test protocols – parts of the paddocking procedures that the public seldom sees and which occur simultaneously to sending other horses out to race – and it’s safe to say that the Harrington team members earned a good nights sleep on the first evening after daylight savings time ended.

With driver Andy Harrington in his customary seat, winners from the roster included Never Say Never (1:59, $5.80) who glided gate-to-wire through even fractions before marching confidently to a five-length margin at the wire.

The 13-year-old veteran son of Bettor’s Delight, owned by Sara Harrington and Gibbs Racing, secured his 7th win of the season on Sunday while nabbing the 58th career top-placing of his illustrious career.

Eazy Hunting (1:59.2, $5) also joined the Harrington hit parade, mounting an extended rally from far back, tipping into third-over positioning at the half, swinging three-wide into the persistent fall breezes at three-parts, before sling-shooting off the final turn, swooping the field by a determined head at the wire, and claiming his eight win of the season.

The runner-up placings from the Harrington roster included Fomor, Race Me Ireland, and PBR Street Gang.

With their sensational Sunday already in the books, the Harrington stable can look forward to hooking up the smaller trailer on Wednesday (November 4) when, with only three horses in-to-go at Bangor, by comparison, their day should prove a relative waltz around historic Bass Park.

The 2026 harness racing at Bangor Raceway will continue to wind down this week with just two more race days remaining on the schedule. Post time for Wednesday’s (November 4) card has been set for 2:30 pm (EST) while Saturday’s (November 7) closing day card  will step to the gate bright and early at 11:45 am.
