Racing returns to Western Michigan Fair

P.M. TOWNSHIP — Harness racing returned to the Western Michigan Fair Sunday for the first time in nine years and drew a crowd of about 200 people to the grandstand.

“My wife (Gretchen) and her family always used to come to them and when I told her they were going to have them again this year, she said we’re going,” Mark Luce of Ludington said about why he was at the track.

“This is actually my first time,” Luce said, adding that he may have peeked over the fence a few times as a child.

His son Will enjoyed the races.

“I really like them. I think it’s really cool,” Will said.

He even picked the winning team in the first race — Monstr Toy — but his name was not chosen for the prize.
