Harness News Update: Picks and analysis for Oak Grove April 16

Oak Grove is to host a 12-dash harness racing card on Tuesday (Apr. 16th). Pick 5 wagers start in both the first and sixth races. The feature race is the $30,000 Open Trot in the sixth race.

The 5-2 morning line favourite in the Open Trot is Railee Something (International Moni). The four-year-old mare is making her 2024 debut after qualifying in 1:55.4. She last raced in October in the Breeders Crown Final where she finished third. Her last win was on Sep. 3rd at Harrah’s Philadelphia in the Pennsylvania Sire Stake final. She won that wire-to-wire in 1:53.0.

Swan Flyer (Swan For All) is the current Open Trot champion and won last time out in 1:53.3. This was a big improvement from his fifth-place finish the week prior. Last week’s win was the five-year-old gelding’s 11th in his career.

There is also a $19,000 Open 2 Trot in the third race. Sparks Fly (Bar Hopping) beat this class last time out in 1:55.1. He comes into Tuesday the 5-2 morning line favourite and will have Atlee Bender in the sulky. The four-year-old gelding will be looking for his seventh career win.
