Methven selections 6th September 2026
Harness analyst best tips:
Best Bet: R11 Unico Realta
Best Value: R9 Lester
Race 1
Buffy Northstains (6)
Excellent second at Ashburton last week and back on grass where she races well. Looks hard to beat.
Jasprit Trouble (7)
Resumes after finishing last campaign reasonably well and has a strong record at Methven. Worth including fresh.
Huckleberry (4)
Already a winner on this track and returns to the grass after some mixed recent form. Capable of improving sharply.
Race 2
Lap It Up (3)
Returns after showing enough last campaign to suggest a maiden win isn’t far away. Definite chance if ready fresh.
Lookslikeagangster (6)
Very good second when resuming and should take plenty of improvement from the run. Looks the one to beat.
Dazzled (12)
Continues to race consistently and went close again at Rangiora. Unruly position is the concern but clearly has the ability.
Race 3
Harry’s Gold (4)
Latest effort was an improvement and he has shown enough previously to compete here. One for the multiples.
Peraki Lad (6)
Returns from a break after producing several useful efforts last campaign. Draw isn’t ideal but capable of featuring fresh.
Whatsupman (2)
Resumes from a handy draw after showing some promise earlier in the year. Looks capable of getting into the finish.
Race 4
Zhutee (3)
Resumes and his only career win came on the grass. Short trip should suit and he appeals as an each-way chance.
Morrie Afton (7)
Should be fitter after his Rangiora resumption and has enough ability for this grade. Needs to step cleanly.
Schoemaker (4)
Returns after finishing last campaign with a placing. Has performed well fresh before and looks a solid top-three chance.
Race 5
Olympian (6)
Went very close at Ashburton last week after another good effort at Addington. Racing well and looks a major chance.
Tattooed Lady (4)
Didn’t get everything go her way when resuming and should improve considerably from that outing. Strong winning chance.
Pickettywitch (1)
Has been racing consistently from mobile starts and gets the inside draw. Should be right in the fight with a clean beginning.
Race 6
Carrera Bandido (6)
Continues to race honestly without getting the rewards. Another suitable assignment and deserves to be high in calculations.
Tallandfast (7)
Recent draws haven’t helped her cause and this isn’t much easier. Capable of featuring with the right trip. Grass suits
Hez A Loch (11)
Needed his fresh-up run at Rangiora and should strip fitter. Unruly second row makes things tricky but can improve at big odds.
Race 7
Could Be Katy (3)
Finished her previous campaign with a win and has performed well fresh before. Front mark makes her very appealing here.
Choco Lou (5)
Recovered well after a slow beginning at Ashburton. Starts from the front again and can be dangerous with a cleaner getaway.
Swift Guy (1)
Made a mistake when resuming but has a very good grass-track record. Gets another chance from the front mark.
Race 8
Here Comes Marty (6)
Latest Rangiora effort was better than it looks and this is a suitable grade. Can get involved with the right run.
Mouton Cadet (5)
Hasn’t had much go his way lately and now returns to the sprint trip. Capable of producing better than recent form suggests.
Penny Weight (11)
Wasn’t far away at Ashburton and has performed well over this course and distance. Second row is tricky but worth including.
Race 9
Lester (9)
Has been racing better than the formline suggests and enjoys the grass. Ten metres isn’t ideal but he can finish strongly.
Deceptive Lee (10)
Good fourth at Oamaru last time and has plenty of grass track experience. Looks one of the stronger chances despite the handicap.
Classie Linc (6)
Current form is mixed but she has a strong record on grass, including a win here. Can improve back on this surface.
Race 10
Johnny Trotter (7)
Returns to a track where he won earlier this year. Gives away 15 metres but has the ability to overcome it.
Kairaki Spur (8)
Continues to race very consistently and already has winning form at Methven. Looks a serious chance again.
Rachmaninov (9)
Knows this track well and is capable of better than his latest effort. Manners usually good and wetter the better.
Race 11
Unico Realta (10)
Went very close at Ashburton last week and should be finishing strongly again. Looks one of the best winning chances.
Festus Haggen (1)
Returns from a break with the perfect inside draw and has performed well at Methven before. Definite each-way chance.
Franco Humbie (2)
Better placed from the front row after a fair Ashburton effort. Has a useful grass record and can run into the money.
