Harness racing breeding enthusiasts are always looking at those golden breeding crosses which seem to have a big advantage on the track.

One of the most obvious in recent years is the cross of the champion sire Bettor's Delight over an In The Pocket mare.

That 'Golden Cross ' has numbers are mind boggling for not only producing so many winners but streams of elite level colts and fillies.

Colts such as Gold Ace 1:52 ($1,247,953), Bettor's Strike 1:55.7 ($890,201),Texican 1:50.1 ($602,154), Flaming Flutter 1:53.9 ($544,665), Dream Out Loud 1:48.8 ($491,026), Ohoka's Bondy 1:53.6 ($388,148), Maxim 1:55.9 ($357,354) and Mossdale Conner 1:51.7 ($328,317) have all done a great job on the track as have fillies such as Kate Perry 1:53.6 ($396,158), Dancing Diamonds 1:57.8 ($343,276), Linda Lovegrace 1:54.8 ($244,973), (A)Willow 1:55.9 ($222,217) and Delightful Dana 1:54.5 ($145,764) to mention just a few.

The total number of winners bred in New Zealand on this 'Golden Cross' to date is 118 while another 43 have qualified.

More and more Bettor's Delight mares who have an In The Pocket dam have yearlings that  are showing up at the yearling sales.

One Bettor's Delight mare bred on this cross to have already done the job is Delightful Dale whose first foal is the very smart three year old Shandale 1:56.7 ($93,676) who is by Art Major.

Lot 13 at this years Australasian Classic Yearling Sale at Karaka is a full sister to Shandale named Lorna Jane and comes from a great juvenile family.

The dam of Delightful Dale was the former smart In The Pocket two year old Dale Elinor TT 1:57.2 ($59,299) who is a full sister to Karen Donna, the dam of Kate Perry 1:53.9 ($396,158) as well as this years very promising three year old Cash N Flow 1:55.6 ($49,471)

The third dam of Lorna Jane is none other than the former champion age group filly in Megaera 1:56.8 ($250,646)

Whichever way you look at it, Lorna Jane has a lot of things going for her via her maternal family and would have to have a high residual value at the end of her racing career.
