New race meet at Monmouth brings major names
Harness racing will be run at Monmouth this Saturday and the new committee's hard work is already paying off with some of the biggest names from within UK harness racing set to compete.
This is most evident in the Doonbeg Flying Mile which has attracted the mighty Stoneriggs Mystery. Can any of his six rivals put an end to his incredible winning streak of will it be another master class by Mick Lord and his champion charge?
A full field of French Trotters line up in race 6. Two recent Wolverhampton winners Tenor Mesloir and T'es Trop Foot are amongst the line-up. Of the two Rhys Evans's runner Tenor Mesloir gets the advantage of a front line draw and will be tough to beat based on his previous runs.
The club have introduced an exciting new initiative in the form of their NAF sponsored conditioned three year old races. The fillies division appears to be a wide open affair with none of the seven runners yet to make it into the winner's enclosure but the likely favourite may be the Joanne Cairns trained, Irish owned Tarawood Joy.
The colts and geldings division sees the first lifetime start of Marc Jones's Rockin Mambo who has looked impressive in qualifiers. Of the five competitors only Lakeside Bono has faced the starter and he made that one start count with a tough win at Wolverhampton a week ago.
The open 3 year old pace pits last year's leading 2year old filly Jessie's Conquest against the best 2 year old of 2015 Miraculous. Both have been in the winner's enclosure already this year but Miraculous's victory at Tir Prince was hugely impressive and this is likely to be another win on his already notable resume.
Eight two year olds go to post in race 8 with the majority of them taking to the track for the first time this could be a minefield for punters. Although with a couple of these having some hefty price tags and pedigrees to live up a new star could be uncovered at the Vauxhall showgrounds.
There are also eight other ultra-competitive contests which make up the 14 race card which commences at 1pm on Saturday. The event promises to be a brilliant day out and one not to be missed.
