By Adam Hamilton ·

Flaming Flutter, a dual Inter Dominion Final placegetter and one of the best bred entire sons of the champion sire Bettor’s Delight, was represented by his first North American winner when the three-year-old filly Unlimited won on debut at Monticello Raceway, New York last week.

UNLIMITED REPLAY

One of Flaming Flutter’s first small crop, the filly is trained by ex-pat Australians Shane and Lauren Tritton, who stand the former Grand Circuit star at their New York property.

In a real coup for Australian breeders, Flaming Flutter’s frozen semen is available from noted Victorian horseman Geoff Webster, who trained him during his long and successful career.

His service fee is $1,500 payable on live foal.

Flaming Flutter’s only Australian bred foal of racing age is the Listed winner Doug’s Flame, a winner of 12 races to date – including three at Menangle and one at Albion Park – and $131,648 in stakes.

He has also sired four yearlings and two weanlings in Australia.

A grand stayer, Flaming Flutter won 29 races in three different countries and a hefty $879,694 and took a mile mark of 1:49.2. Among his successes were the SA Pacing Cup, Tontine Series, the Tony Turnbull, Terang and Cobram Cups, the SA Derby and numerous free-for-alls.

He was also placed in the NZ Yearling Sales Series 2YO Final, the SA Pacing Cup, the Kilmore, Bendigo, Cranbourne, Maryborough and Mildura Pacing Cups, Breeders Crown Graduate and the Paleface Adios Classic.

At one stage Flaming Flutter held the national two-year-old mile record at 1:53.9 set at Menangle.

Flaming Flutter is closely related to a host of 1:50 performers.

His sire Bettor’s Delight (1:49.8) is the world’s leading living sire of 1:50 performers and his damsire In The Pocket (1:49.6) is the sire of the sensational Christian Cullen, who topped the NZ sires’ list on five occasions and was the leading broodmare sire for seven consecutive seasons.

Twice As Hot, the dam of Flaming Flutter, left eight winners from 11 foals with six in 2:00 including the Breeders Crown champion Fiamma, while his grand-dam Twice As Good produced 15 foals for nine winners with seven in 2:00 and four $100,000 earners.

The family includes the NZ Derby winner We Walk By Faith, the NZ 2YO Filly and 4YO Mare of the Year Elle Mac, Typhoon Banner (1:48.8), Cyclone Banner, In The Spotlight (1:49.4) and Duplicated (1:49.4).
