Fancy Like That vaults to upset win

FORT WASHINGTON, Md. — Fancy Like That (Rusty’s For Real) turned a third-over trip into a 9-1 harness racing upset in Thursday’s (Feb. 5) featured event at Rosecroft Raceway, a $10,000 top-level distaff pace.

FancyIn line to Eric Davis, Fancy Like That retreated to sixth in the seven-mare field as Oh Ophelia (driven by Roger Plante Jr.) and Stamphillshadow GB (Yogi Sheridan) dueled through a :27.1 first quarter. After rating a :57.4 half, Oh Ophelia faced a sustained but mild first-over bid from Phoenix Rising (Brian Burton) up the backstretch, and Fancy Like That angled three-wide to circle stalling cover with five-sixteenths to go.

Oh Ophelia dismissed the challenge of Phoenix Rising at three-quarters in 1:26.4 and had enough to keep pocket rival and third-place finisher Stamphillshadow GB a length at bay through the stretch, but Fancy Like That surged in deep stretch to just nab Oh Ophelia at the end of a 1:56.3 mile.

Trainer Kasey Bendix co-owns Fancy Like That, a 5-year-old Rusty’s For Real-Scootin Woody mare who paid $21.40 to win, with Virginia Marvel.
