Facebook's PK counting the days to Narrabri
By his own admission Paul Kramer has had an interest in harness racing for a long time and with the explosion of social media, it has allowed the racing enthusiast to get closer to a wide array of trainers, jockeys and drivers. What started out as a bit of fun with PK ‘facebook friending’ and congratulating winning jockeys and drivers has turned into something more as he is now the proud owner of a pacer named Beau Studleigh.
Beau Studleigh will compete in the third race at Narrabri’s Carnival Of Cups meeting on Sunday and PK will be there to cheer on his star.
“The main thing I want when Beau Studleigh does win a race, is a photo so I can hang it on the wall,” PK said.
“I see all the photos on the wall when I go into Murray Sullivan’s place or Jason Gaffney’s and all I have at the moment is a photo of my greyhound.”
Beau Studleigh qualified for Sunday’s John Dean Memorial when he ran second in his heat at last weekend’s non TAB meeting.
“It was a huge run, Beau Studleigh galloped at the start and must have lost about 50 metres but he balanced up and did a good job to run second. I spoke with Jason about it and he reckons he just needs to make a small adjustment to his gear and we will be right this weekend.
“Give Me Fifty won a race for some of Jason’s owners last weekend at Narrabri and the jubilation they showed was great, there were only four of them but they made the stand rock with their cheering. That’s what I hope to be feeling and doing this Sunday.”
PK has a share in a greyhound that has won three of its six race starts but is currently on the sidelines injured, while a galloper he races has struggled on the track with a fifth placing its best result.
“Harness racing is such a good sport, it is run really well and people out at the country tracks have been so good looking after me. I travel around house sitting for people and next week I’ll be in Melbourne so I’m heading out to Melton to catch up with a few people.
“If Murray or Jason get a horse in at Bathurst on Gold Crown night I’ll be rushing back to be at the track, I just really enjoy spending time with them and they always make me feel very welcome.”
Beau Studleigh’s race is scheduled to begin at 2:07pm on Sunday afternoon and the four year old has drawn gate three.
“He has an emergency drawn inside him so he might start out of two, I’ll be there, I wouldn’t miss it.”
