Double Lou (Sweet Lou) made it look easy in a recent open class trial, leading from go to whoa and clocking a 1:53.9 mile rate with a sharp 26.2 last quarter.

Bailey McDonough had the harness racing gelding out in front from the jump for his first trial since his 3rd in the Riverina Champs in late April.

“I’ll give him a run here (Menangle), ideally 10 days from now or ten days from his next trial… I’ll see how he comes through the run and debate that after his next workout” McDonough said.

“Ideally I’d like to give him a start the week prior (to the Rising Sun)… he tends to thrive on the racing so he may have three runs in a row up there”.

Better Eclipse was the other horse from the fast class trial catch the eye.

DOUBLE LOU REPLAY

Luke McCarthy had him three pegs for most of the trial before popping out at the top of the straight to let him finish off strongly.

“He was up against some quality horses in Double Lou and Sinola, so I was really happy with how he went. I nomed him for the inters but Leap to Fame is just so good, so I’ll give him a couple of starts in Syndey first and see how he goes.”

McCarthy confirmed another of his stable stars Don Hugo will be a started next Saturday night at Club Menangle. He is right where he wants him to give him his best shot at claiming his second Inter Dominion title.

Another of Tony Licastros team, God Crown Consolation winner Don Hunter trialled well last week at Club Menangle.

“I nomed him last Saturday for the 2yo but it didn’t stand up. He is really good and will be ready to go for the heat on Tuesday.”
