Comeandsee’s speed the factor in $150,000 Breeders Challenge success

Comeandsee’s speed the factor in $150,000 Breeders Challenge success

Victorian trained harness racing filly Comeandsee (Cattlewash) made full use of her favourable barrier draw when leading all the way in the Nutrien Equity NSW Breeders Challenge Final for two year old fillies at Menangle on Saturday evening.

It was always going to be a case if Comeandsee could lead all the way. Her main rival talented local filly Birdsong was drawn wide. Comeandsee showed her customary early speed but only just managed to hold the front as she was seriously challenged by She’s A Delaney who inexplicably galloped as she alongside Comeandsee.

COMEANDSEE 31 OCT REPLAY

Fortunately most of the field was able to avoid her as Comeandsee was then steadied by driver Mark Pitt to run a second quarter of 29.5 seconds after having to go a scintillating 26.5 seconds for the opening quarter. Frith In Flight was able to settle behind the leader while Birdsong had little option but to keep going up to the field to face the breeze.

Comeandsee applied the pressure on the final bend as Birdsong kept giving plenty on her outside while Frith In Flight was looking for an inside run. There seemed to be a few anxious moments for Comeandsee but she responded to Pitt’s vigorous driving and she drew clear to defeat a gallant Frith in Flight by just under four metres with Birdsong losing no friends in a close third.

Lightly raced Comeandsee has only started on seven occasions for six wins. Her only defeat was when she finished fourth in the Protostar at Albion Park in July. Trained by Emma Stewart, Comeandsee has been driven by Mark Pitt in all her wins except when Bailey McDonough had the reins in her semi final success two weeks ago.

Prepared by Emma Stewart appears to have more improvement in her as has Birdsong. Frith On Flight who is out of the former great mare Frith is shaping as a very accomplished filly and this augurs well for these fillies if they come back next year for the New South Wales Oaks.
